Sri Chinmoy was born in India in 1931. At the age of 12 he moved to the Sri Aurobindo ashram in the South of India, where he remained for 20 years practising meditation and taking an active part in Ashram life.
In 1964, he travelled to New York where he lived until his passing in October, 2007.
Sri Chinmoy gave many talks on meditation and wrote a number of books. He also inspired others to meditate through his own powerful meditation. (see: Meditation Silence at Sri Chinmoy TV)
Sri Chinmoy centres give free meditation classes in numerous cities across the globe.
Sri Chinmoy established numerous initiatives such as the World Harmony Run, and the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team which promote many long distance events.
Sri Chinmoy established a thriving meditation centre in New York as well as in over 60 countries around the world.
